With general direction from Sales, Manufacturing and R&D management, the R&D Associate Engineer performs a variety of engineering functions in terms of designing, planning, implementing, and constructing new and innovative samples on various types of nonwoven equipment. The R&D Associate Engineer works closely with other engineers, management staff, and production staff to successfully achieve the desired samples from initial design to commercial release, including soc, sop, and specification design, summary reporting, coordination of activities with outside entities if necessary, and final set up of the new products on the Corporate information system (E1). This position also requires coordinating the PPAP process and Annual Validation of required AJ Nonwovens products. The R&D Associate Engineer's responsibilities require him/her to employ authority and discretion in managing their time, as well as the time and resources of the corporation.

Specific job functions:

  • Participates as a member of the R&D team; executes projects in a diligent, professional manner.
  • Designs new products and product improvements to meet business and consumer needs
  • Leads individual development projects; implements & organizes the documentation of results and conclusions.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing for new process start-ups and enhancements.
  • Completes the addition of the new product information to the Corporate information system (E1)
  • Recommends and implements technical improvements through product redesigns.
  • Recommends and implements product inventory actions to support cost improvements.
  • Collaborates with other groups in the organization (Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, IS, & Purchasing) to assist with Corporate directives.
  • Assists the sample coordinator, managing the inventory and distribution of all samples to in-house and outside sales, customers, and trade show events. Coordinate PPAPs PSW's Testing to OEM Specifications, and other documents related to the PPAP process. Coordinates including actual testing when necessary for Annual Test validations.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong communication: will communicate with internal staff as well as external sales, vendors and customers
  • Experience in nonwoven and post finishing operations.
  • Experience in design, development and implementation of the manufacture of new products on the manufacturing equipment
  • Skilled in defining and documenting design specifications, SOCs & SOPs, and data input to Corporate Information Systems.
  • Familiarity with fiber and fiber manufacturing systems and the relevance to nonwoven process capabilities
  • Able to research technical information and web databases
  • May need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for certain times throughout the day.
  • The position may require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection
